Top Pop 1964-2006

The show that made the 60s go with a swing, the 70s sensational, the 80s electric and, into the 90s and even the noughties, it was still number one. From its humble beginnings on 1st January 1964 on BBC Television at 6.34pm from a disused church in Dickenson Road, Manchester, Top Of The Pops went from a being six-week show to UK’s flagship pop programme for more than forty years. Music shows on other channels came and went, TOTP became an institution; stars appeared and on some occasions became household names overnight.
